Connect ChatGPT
Add DeskWink to ChatGPT as a custom connector, sign in, and choose what ChatGPT may do on your computer.
OpenAI changes ChatGPT’s menus and plan rules from time to time. Custom connectors may sit behind a setting such as a developer or advanced mode, and some plans need a workspace administrator to allow them. We describe the steps and do not quote exact menu names. If something below does not match what you see, search OpenAI’s help pages for “custom connectors” or “MCP”. DeskWink does not change your ChatGPT plan or its limits.
What you need
- A ChatGPT plan that lets you add custom connectors (remote MCP servers). This depends on your plan and, for workspaces, on your administrator.
- DeskWink running on your computer. Run
deskwink statusto check. See Getting started.
Steps
- In ChatGPT, open the settings area where connectors or apps are managed and choose to add a custom connector. You may first need to switch on the option that allows custom connectors.
-
Name it
DeskWinkand enter this address as the server URL:https://mcp.deskwink.com/mcp - Choose sign-in with OAuth if ChatGPT asks how to authenticate. There is no key to paste.
- ChatGPT sends you to a DeskWink page. Sign in with the account you used to pair your computer.
- On the permissions page, choose the computers and abilities ChatGPT may use. Start with reading files; add the ability to propose changes when you want it.
- Return to ChatGPT. Start a new chat and enable the DeskWink connector for it, if ChatGPT shows such a switch.
Try it
Ask ChatGPT:
- “Which computers do I have connected to DeskWink?”
- “List the files in my DeskWink folder.”
- “Read notes.md and suggest a tighter introduction, then propose the edit.”
When ChatGPT proposes an edit, DeskWink holds it until you approve it in the DeskWink console, where you can see exactly what changes.
If it does not work
- ChatGPT says the computer is offline. DeskWink only runs while you have started it. Run
deskwink launchon the computer. - ChatGPT cannot see a folder. Add it on the computer with
deskwink folders add, and check on the permissions page that this computer is allowed for ChatGPT. - You cannot add a custom connector. It may not be available on your plan, or your workspace administrator may need to enable it. DeskWink cannot change that.
