Connect Claude

Add DeskWink to Claude as a custom connector, sign in, and choose what Claude may do on your computer.

Menus change

Anthropic changes Claude’s menus and plan rules from time to time, so we describe the steps and do not quote exact menu names. If something below does not match what you see, search Claude’s help centre for “custom connectors” or “remote MCP”. DeskWink does not change your Claude plan or its limits.

What you need

  • A Claude plan that lets you add custom connectors. This depends on your plan; on some plans an organisation administrator has to allow or add them.
  • DeskWink running on your computer. Run deskwink status to check. See Getting started.

Steps

  1. In Claude, open the settings area where connectors are managed and choose to add a custom connector.
  2. Name it DeskWink and enter this address:
    https://mcp.deskwink.com/mcp
  3. Claude sends you to a DeskWink page. Sign in with the account you used to pair your computer.
  4. On the permissions page, choose the computers and abilities Claude may use. Start with reading files; add the ability to propose changes when you want it.
  5. Return to Claude. Start a new conversation and make sure the DeskWink connector is switched on for it, if Claude shows such a switch.

Try it

Ask Claude:

  • “Which computers do I have connected to DeskWink?”
  • “List the files in my DeskWink folder.”
  • “Read notes.md and suggest a tighter introduction, then propose the edit.”

When Claude proposes an edit, DeskWink holds it until you approve it in the DeskWink console, where you can see exactly what changes. Claude can tell you the request is waiting for your approval.

If it does not work

  • Claude says the computer is offline. DeskWink only runs while you have started it. Run deskwink launch on the computer.
  • Claude cannot see a folder. Add it on the computer with deskwink folders add, and check on the permissions page that this computer is allowed for Claude.
  • You cannot find the custom connector option. It may not be available on your plan, or an administrator may need to enable it. DeskWink cannot change that.
