Connect Gemini

Add DeskWink to Gemini as a custom app, sign in, and choose what Gemini may do on your computer. Custom apps are in a limited rollout.

Limited rollout

Google added custom apps (your own MCP server) to Gemini in 2026 and is still rolling them out. These steps follow Google’s Gemini Apps Help page, which we checked on 21 October 2026. Custom apps are available today only for personal Google accounts, for people aged 18 or over in the US, in English, with Keep Activity switched on. Work and school accounts are not supported yet. DeskWink cannot change any of that, and does not change your Google plan or its limits.

What you need

  • A Google account and location that meet the conditions above. Google’s custom apps page lists no paid plan. Custom apps belong to Gemini Spark, which Google describes for Google AI Pro subscribers in the US (in English) and for Google AI Ultra subscribers.
  • DeskWink running on your computer. Run deskwink status to check. See Getting started.

Steps

  1. On a computer, open gemini.google.com and sign in. You can only add custom apps in the Gemini web app. Once added, they also work in the mobile app.
  2. Open Settings → Connected Apps. If you do not see Connected Apps, click Personal Intelligence first.
  3. Under Custom apps, enter this address in the Add a custom app link to get started field, or click Add a custom app if you already have one:
    https://mcp.deskwink.com/mcp
  4. Leave Advanced features alone. DeskWink supports dynamic client registration, so Gemini needs no client ID or secret. Click Next.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions. Gemini sends you to a DeskWink page: sign in with the account you used to pair your computer.
  6. On the permissions page, choose the computers and abilities Gemini may use. Start with reading files; add the ability to propose changes when you want it, then click Allow.
  7. In a chat, type @ and choose DeskWink.

Try it

Ask Gemini:

  • “Which computers do I have connected to DeskWink?”
  • “List the files in my DeskWink folder.”
  • “Read notes.md and suggest a tighter introduction, then propose the edit.”

Gemini asks you to confirm actions that write. DeskWink adds its own check: when Gemini proposes an edit, DeskWink holds it until you approve it in the DeskWink console, where you can see exactly what changes.

If it does not work

  • You do not see Custom apps. Check the conditions at the top of this page. Google is rolling the feature out gradually.
  • Gemini says the computer is offline. DeskWink only runs while you have started it. Run deskwink launch on the computer.
  • Gemini cannot see a folder. Add it on the computer with deskwink folders add, and check on the permissions page that this computer is allowed for Gemini.
  • You want to remove it. In Settings → Connected Apps, find DeskWink under Custom apps, click More details, then Remove app. You can also revoke it in the DeskWink console.
