Connect Muse (Meta AI)
How to add DeskWink to Meta's Muse as a custom connector by asking Muse in a chat: a message to copy, what to expect, and what we have and have not been able to check.
These steps come from Meta’s help page “How Muse works with Connectors” and from third-party guides, read on 31 October 2026. Meta has not published a step-by-step guide for remote MCP servers, and DeskWink has not yet tested Muse end to end. If something below differs from what you see, or if it works, please tell us at [email protected]. DeskWink is independent and is not made or endorsed by Meta.
What is known
- Meta’s help page says you can connect services by asking Muse, or in Settings → Connectors, and that if a service is not listed you can ask Muse to create a Custom Connector. Muse guides you through it and keeps what it needs in its Secure Credentials Store.
- Meta also says it “doesn’t review custom connectors or how they use your information”. Grant access with care. This applies to DeskWink too: read what DeskWink’s consent page asks before you click Allow.
- Meta’s page does not mention MCP. Third-party guides say Muse accepts a remote MCP server (streamable HTTP with OAuth sign-in) when you give it a public HTTPS address. Those guides are written by companies that sell MCP products, and we could not confirm their wording on Meta’s own pages.
- Where Muse is offered is up to Meta. Meta’s page does not list countries or devices. Third-party guides say Muse is currently offered in the US and Canada, and works on the web, in the mobile apps and in WhatsApp. Availability depends on Meta and may change.
Steps
- Make sure DeskWink is running on your computer (
deskwink status, thendeskwink launchif needed) and that you have shared a folder. See Getting started. - Open a new chat with Muse and send this message. It uses DeskWink’s public address, because Muse connects from Meta’s cloud and cannot reach
localhostor a private address:Create a Custom Connector for a new remote MCP server, then connect to it. The server URL is https://mcp.deskwink.com/mcp and it uses OAuth sign-in (name: DeskWink, transport: remote streamable HTTP). Once it is created, help me sign in to DeskWink, then list the tools it provides. - Follow what Muse asks. It should create the connector and open DeskWink’s sign-in page. If Muse asks for a different field or format, give it the name
DeskWink, the addresshttps://mcp.deskwink.com/mcp, and say it uses OAuth. Do not enter a client ID, secret or key: DeskWink supports dynamic client registration and client ID metadata documents, and does not use fixed keys. - Sign in to DeskWink with the account you used to pair your computer.
- Choose what Muse may do on DeskWink’s consent page: which of your computers, and whether it may only read files or also propose changes. Click Allow.
- Try it. Ask Muse “Which computers do I have connected to DeskWink?” and then “List the files in my DeskWink folder.”
Some third-party guides also describe an Add custom connector button under Settings → Connectors; another says Muse has no such screen. We could not confirm either, so we only describe asking Muse in a chat, which Meta’s page does describe.
What you stay in charge of
- When Muse proposes an edit to a file, DeskWink holds it until you approve it in the DeskWink console, where you see exactly what changes. Meta’s page says Muse also asks for approval before many important actions by default.
- File tools work on Windows, macOS and Linux. Running commands, your browser and desktop control are separate, off by default and turned on only on your computer; desktop control is available on Windows only.
- You can revoke Muse’s access at any time in the DeskWink console under AI connections. In Muse, go to Settings → Connectors to disconnect it. Meta says information Muse already used may remain in its memories and your conversation history.
If it does not work
- Muse does not create the connector, or says it cannot. Custom connectors may not be available where you are, or on your account. Check Meta’s help page. DeskWink cannot change that.
- Muse says the computer is offline. DeskWink only runs while you have started it. Run
deskwink launchon the computer. A phone cannot reach a computer that is off or asleep. - The sign-in page does not open, or the connection fails. Ask Muse to remove the connector and create it again with the address exactly as above. Third-party guides say sign-in through OAuth took more back-and-forth than a fixed key; if it fails twice, write to us with what Muse said.
- Muse cannot see a folder. Add it on the computer with
deskwink folders add, and check on the consent page that this computer is allowed for Muse. You can change it in the console under AI connections. - You want it gone. Revoke it in the DeskWink console and disconnect it in Muse, as above.
